Wk 2 Technical: Quiz 2 – Grammar Rules

Week 2 COMM11007

Grammar

Attempted quiz at 1am, prior to reading text and performed poorly. However, second attempt scored 100 /100.

The reason I performed so well on second attempt is because I read the prescribed text prior to quiz.

I took it for granted believing the quiz would be easy, given we learnt literacy and writing at school.

Lessons learnt, don’t take short cuts and read the prescribed text prior to attempting quiz.

Week 2 Inquiry: Review the top Twitter trends – Sonia Kruger

Week 2 COMM11007

Sonia Kruger trends in the news again for a second week in a row for telling it like it is.

Twitter Trends

Sonia Kruger is an Australian television presenter and media personality. She is best known for co-hosting the popular Australian version of Dancing with the Stars and for the role of Tina Sparkle in the hit 1992 film Strictly Ballroom. Sonia Kruger is also host on the popular Ch 9 Today Show.

Sonia Kruger made national headlines over her comments which created a media storm caused by her comment last week that she would like to see muslim immigration in Australia stopped in the interests of safety. Sonia made headlines not just throughout Australia but also made headlines in the UK.

A week later, Sonia spoke out condemning LGBTI scholarship stating “ I don’t think it should have anything to do with the awarding of a scholarship. I thinks scholarships should be given on merit,”she said on the Today Show this morning.

In the previous week Sonia made comments in support for a muslim ban on Muslim immigration in Australia, Sonia received a heavy and distasteful backlash via social media on Facebook and Twitter. In actual fact, Sonia was crucified for speaking out and had even received death threats for airing her views publicly.

While Sonia Kruger’s statement on Muslim immigration may have caused a media storm, Sonia certainly had the support from many Australians who took to twitter and Facebook praising Sonia for speaking out by many who also shared the same views.

Most people agreed with Sonia Kruger’s comments:

While a few disagreed:

It is interesting to note that SBS couldn’t wait to get their left-wing story published, portraying Sonia Kruger had more haters than supporters.

SBS took advantage of manipulating the screenshots to make it look like the majority of the Australian people objected and disagreed with Kruger’s views.

Having looked through twitter feeds and on Facebook it didn’t take long to find that SBS had made false claims on how the public really felt.

When in actual fact having further researched, it appeared that there was a large majority of Australians that fully supported Sonia’s views.

Sonia also received support from other media personalities such as 2GB Radio host Ben Fordham, Miranda Divine, Andrew Bolt and Kerri-Anne Kennelly.

Whether you agree with Sonia or disagree, it is what it is, free speech. If we want to live in a democratic country that values freedom of speech and democracy then we have to allow everyone a voice.

There’s a saying that certainly rings true, that is if you don’t use it (freedom of speech), then you will lose it.
